Description Job Role

HMP Berwyn offers exceptional learning & skill provision, with a focus on rehabilitation, to the men it houses. The curriculum offer supports this process and we are seeking exceptional staff to help us deliver this agenda across a wide range of areas.

As directed by the Hub Manager, you will * support and coach learners to ensure they remain proactively engaged in learning * work in partnership with other service providers throughout the prison and across the broad range of the curriculum areas to support learners and help them address barriers * ensure that you meet budget, quality and operational targets * provide high quality, learner focussed service to meet learner needs, contractual requirements and standards and in line with policies and procedures.

  • Key Accountabilities

    • Manage a specific, identified case load of clients, providing appropriate pastoral support and coaching
    • Assess each client in relation to their suitability for employment or training, and signpost accordingly
    • Offer unbiased, clear and up to date information, advice and guidance on routes to employment for Further and Higher Education courses upon and after release
    • Empower and support clients to complete their own Curriculum Vitae and job searching activities
    • Manage expectations and identify potential barriers to employment and training
    • Effectively liaise with referral agencies, internal and external, in relation to the safeguarding and progression of learners
    • Signpost and refer clients (where appropriate) to other providers, both within and outside of the establishment (e.g. CRC, DWP, Careers Wales, OMU and HMPPS), to ensure they remain engaged in learning and self-development.
    • Work closely with Novus Cambria colleagues and Prison Industry providers to identify men who require additional coaching support
    • Understand and work within the parameters of ROTL, HDC and other licensing conditions
    • Organise, promote and deliver, in partnership with HMP and other colleagues, Employment Fairs and Progression Days to meet the needs of learners at HMP Berwyn
    • Develop strong working relationships with local and national employers. Manage your portfolio of stakeholders through agreed means of communication
    • Mediate and communicate with employers, on behalf of clients whose employment has been held until release
    • Work closely with IAG colleagues in induction provision, provide advice and guidance and contribute to Individual Learning and Work Plans (ILWP) to reflect learners’ needs and progress
    • Work closely with HMP colleagues to ensure that the individual needs of the clients at HMP Berwyn are consistently met
    • Support clients through the gate, to enhance chances for success in employment, education or training
    • Seek regular feedback from learners and action recommendations
    • Ensure the safeguarding of learners
    • Ensure that learner records are accurate and are maintained in line with data protection and agreed policies
    • Work within the agreed Quality Management System and adhere to quality procedures and correct documentation
    • Communicate effectively with Novus Cambria colleagues, learners, stakeholders and other departments across the establishment
    • Comply with Health & Safety legislation and prison security requirements
    • Participate in continual professional development activities to ensure skills and qualifications are in line with sector best practice.

  • Qualifications

    • Hold appropriate L3 qualification, e.g. IAG Desirable
    • Hold at least a level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy Essential
    • Coaching qualification Desirable
    • Ability to speak fluent Welsh Desirable
    • Subject to enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check Essential
