Description Job Role

HMP Berwyn offers exceptional learning & skill provision, with a focus on rehabilitation, to the men it houses. The curriculum offer supports this process and we are seeking exceptional staff to help us deliver this agenda across a wide range of areas.

As directed by the Hub Manager, your role will be to: * ensure all learners are appropriately supported to ensure they remain proactively engaged in learning; * work in partnership with the Horticulture Trainer and other members of the Work Based Learning Hub to ensure that learners are able to participate effectively in learning through appropriate coaching and support; * ensure that you meet budget, quality and operational targets; * Provide high quality, learner focussed service to meet learner needs, contractual requirements and Awarding Body standards, in line with policies and procedures.

  • Key Accountabilities

    • Work with tutors and trainers to develop lesson plans to ensure that provision is inclusive of all learners and maximises their ability to fulfil their potential as learners
    • Contribute to the completion, monitoring and maintenance of Individual Learning and Work Plans (ILWP) to reflect learners’ needs and progress
    • Support learners in the identification and addressing of barriers which may hinder engagement in learning and progression
    • Support the progression of learners in regard to subject and soft targets
    • Seek regular feedback from learners and action recommendations
    • Ensure that learner records are accurate and are maintained in line with data protection and agreed policies
    • Ensure the safeguarding of learners
    • Work within the agreed Quality Management System and adhere to quality procedures and correct documentation
    • Communicate effectively with Novus Cambria colleagues, learners, stakeholders and other departments across the establishment
    • Comply with Health & Safety legislation and prison security requirements
    • Participate in continual professional development activities to ensure skills and qualifications are in line with sector best practice.

  • Qualifications

    • Hold a minimum L2 qualification for Learning Support Practitioners or equivalent Desirable
    • Hold at least a level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy Essential
    • Ability to speak fluent Welsh Desirable
    • Subject to enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check Essential
  • Experience

    • Experience working in a horticulture setting
    • Experience of coaching to support learning Desirable
    • Track record of working with people presenting with challenging behaviour Desirable
    • Experience of working within a prison, further education or training setting Desirable
    • Knowledge of strategies and processes which support learning Essential
    • Knowledge and understanding of how people learn and methods that can be used to enhance the learning experience Essential
