Description Job Role

HMP Berwyn offers exceptional learning & skill provision, with a focus on rehabilitation, to the men it houses. The curriculum offer supports this process and we are seeking exceptional staff to help us deliver this agenda across a wide range of areas.

As directed by the Deputy Head of Education, and liaising with Novus Cambria Shared Service departments, you will * Deliver support and guidance to teaching staff in line with quality assurance processes and Awarding Body standards. * Monitor the quality of assessor performance, identify development needs and facilitate assessor training * Assist in the implementation and maintenance of quality monitoring systems. * Assist in the continuous improvement and development of internal systems which support the needs of the organisation, and support staff in the use of the same. * Contribute to the work of Novus Cambria’s management team in order to fulfil the organisation’s strategic aims. * Ensure documentation and records meet quality and regulatory requirements.

  • Key Accountabilities

    • Work towards and maintain Direct Claims Status across curriculum areas
    • Complete IQA across a range of disciplines within your subject specialism
    • Facilitate internal training and provide support to IQAs within the curriculum area
    • Work collaboratively with Hub Managers and practitioners to support quality processes in line with Awarding Body guidance
    • Ensure subject disciplines are compliant with quality standards
    • Monitor learner records to ensure accuracy and compliance with data protection and agreed policies
    • Co-ordinate EQA visits with Hub Managers
    • Respond to EQA reports and manage action plans alongside Hub managers
    • Teach designated hours as required (.4 of role), with a flexible approach to delivering across curriculum areas, as needed to fulfil contractual requirements
    • Provide timely and accurate completion of documents related to accreditation, funding and compliance
    • Ensure that quality systems and processes are continuously robust
    • Ensure the safeguarding of learners
    • Comply with Health & Safety legislation and prison security requirements
    • Participate in continual professional development activities to ensure skills and qualifications are in line with sector best practice.

  • Qualifications

    • Relevant teaching qualification Essential
    • Internal Verifier qualification (TAQA, V1 or equivalent), or willing to work towards within 1 year
    • Vocational qualifications (not all expected); Catering/Hospitality, Customer Service, Cleaning, H&S, Warehousing/Retail and Horticulture
    • Ability to speak fluent Welsh Desirable
    • Subject to enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check Essential
  • Experience

    • Experience of a range of delivery and assessment methods within subject areas Essential
    • Recent track record of working with a range of Awarding Bodies Essential
    • Experience of EBS Desirable
    • Familiarity with Awarding Body digital systems, e.g. Walled Garden Desirable
    • Experience of providing support and training for assessors and trainers Desirable
    • Vocational experience (not all expected); Catering/Hospitality, Customer Service, Cleaning, H&S, Warehousing/Retail and Horticulture Essential
    • Good quality IQA and EQA processes Essential
    • Processes for registration of learners and claiming of qualifications Essential
    • Working knowledge of Awarding Body digital systems, e.g. Walled Garden Desirable
