Description Job Role

HMP Berwyn offers exceptional learning & skill provision, with a focus on rehabilitation, to the men it houses. The curriculum offer supports this process and we are seeking exceptional staff to help us deliver this agenda across a wide range of areas.

As directed by the Hub Manager, your role will be to: * ensure all learners are appropriately supported to ensure they remain proactively engaged in learning; * work in partnership with the SSA Team to ensure that learners are able to participate effectively in learning through appropriate coaching and support; * provide high quality, learner focussed service to meet learner needs, contractual requirements and Awarding Body standards, in line with policies and procedures.

  • Key Accountabilities

    • Work with tutors and trainers to develop lesson plans to ensure that provision is inclusive of all learners and maximises their ability to fulfil their potential as learners
    • Contribute to the completion, monitoring and maintenance of Individual Learning and Work Plans (ILWP) to reflect learners’ needs and progress
    • Support learners in the identification and addressing of barriers which may hinder engagement in learning and progression
    • Support the delivery of sessions and progression of learners
    • Seek regular feedback from learners and action recommendations
    • Contribute effectively to Detention Training Order and Sentence Planning meetings, where appropriate
    • Ensure that learner records are accurate and are maintained in line with data protection and agreed policies
    • Ensure the safeguarding of learners
    • Work within the agreed Quality Management System and adhere to quality procedures and correct documentation
    • Communicate effectively with Novus Cambria colleagues, learners, stakeholders and other departments across the establishment
    • Comply with Health & Safety legislation and prison security requirements
    • Participate in continual professional development activities to ensure skills and qualifications are in line with sector best practice.

  • Qualifications

    • Hold a minimum L2 qualification for Learning Support Practitioners Desirable
    • Hold at least a level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy Essential
    • Hold an FA Level 2 Coaching qualification Essential
    • Ability to speak fluent Welsh Desirable
    • Subject to enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check Essential
  • Experience

    • Experience of coaching to support learning Essential
    • Experience of coaching football skills Essential
    • Track record of working with people presenting with challenging behaviour Essential
    • Experience of working within a prison, further education or training setting Desirable
    • Knowledge and understanding of how sport can be used to facilitate development of wider social skills Essential
    • Knowledge of strategies and processes which support learning Essential
