Description Job Role

HMP Berwyn offers exceptional learning & skill provision, with a focus on rehabilitation, to the men it houses. The curriculum offer supports this process and we are seeking exceptional staff to help us deliver this agenda in our working training restaurant.

You will primarily focus on training learners to industry standards in front of house service to provide them with the qualifications and skills they need to secure employment on release. This will include a range of skills such as food and beverage service, barista skills and customer service. You will also support, when needed, in the back of house, training learners in the preparation and cooking of food.

As directed by the Hub Manager, your role will be to deliver high quality, learner focussed vocational training to meet learner needs, contractual requirements and Awarding Body standards and in line with policies and procedures.

  • Key Accountabilities

    • Plan, organise, deliver and assess a vocational, competency-based curriculum up to Level 3
    • Contribute to curriculum development, lead and support in the planning, delivery and accreditation of learner focussed educational provision
    • Develop, or contribute to, a scheme of work and lesson plans to ensure compliance with best practice and quality targets
    • Prepare up to date and appropriate teaching materials and assessments
    • Teach using a variety of methods, including formal lessons, discussions, practical activities, projects and assignments. Differentiate lesson plans and teaching methods to meet individual learner needs
    • Provide marking and feedback of learners’ class work and assessments
    • Work collaboratively with colleagues, to support literacy, numeracy and digital literacy skills within the curriculum area
    • Ensure that learner records are accurate and are maintained in line with data protection and agreed policies
    • Provide timely and accurate completion of documents related to accreditation, funding and compliance
    • Communicate effectively with Novus Cambria colleagues, learners, stakeholders and other departments across the establishment
    • Ensure the safeguarding of learners
    • Comply with Food Safety legislation, Health & Safety legislation and prison security requirements
    • Participate in continual professional development activities to ensure skills and qualifications are in line with sector best practice.

  • Qualifications

    • Hold a minimum L3 qualification in relevant, subject specific area Desirable
    • Hold, or commit to gain within 1 year, a minimum L3 teaching qualification, e.g. AET, PTTLS or equivalent Desirable
    • Hold at least a level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy Essential
    • Hold, or commit to gain within 1 year, appropriate Assessor qualification (TAQA 3, A1, or equivalent) Essential
    • Ability to speak fluent Welsh Desirable
    • Subject to Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check Essential
    • Hold, or commit to gain within 3 months, a Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety in Catering or equivalent. Essential
  • Experience

    • Experience of a range of delivery and assessment methods within subject areas Desirable
    • Industry experience within the restaurant industry in a front of house setting Essential
    • Industry experience working in a restaurant kitchen Essential
    • Experience of working within a prison, further education or training setting Desirable
